How to Use
Tattoos need a balance of protection, moisture, and time to breathe. In the first few days after getting inked, your tattoo is essentially an open wound – it will be inflamed, tender, and may ooze plasma or ink. During this stage, follow your tattoo artist’s aftercare instructions closely, usually involving ga sterile barrier. Do not apply balm while the skin is broken or inflamed – it’s best to wait until the tattoo begins to scab and peel naturally.
Once your tattoo enters the drying and scabbing stage (usually 3–5 days in), you can begin using the balm to help soften scabs, reduce itching, and keep the skin supple. Apply a very thin layer 2–3 times per day – just enough to add moisture without suffocating the skin. Your goal is to support healing and prevent cracking, not to keep the area greasy.
As peeling finishes and your tattoo enters the settling stage (after about two weeks), continue daily use to maintain hydration and enhance the vibrancy of your ink. Long term, balms like Sacred Skin are brilliant for keeping tattoos looking fresh – they prevent dryness and fading, especially during colder months or after sun exposure. Many people make moisturising part of their daily tattoo ritual.
Remember: always wash your hands before applying, avoid over-moisturising (which can soften scabs too much), and never pick at peeling skin. A healed tattoo is for life – taking care of it in these early weeks helps protect your art and your skin for the long run.
